Spring is here, which means longer days, warmer weather (hopefully!), and the perfect time to give your home a little TLC. A few simple jobs can make a world of difference. If you’re thinking about selling this spring, even better! These are some of the little things that can make a big difference in how your home presents to potential buyers in Maraetai and Beachlands.

1. Declutter the Trouble Spots

Start with the places that annoy you every day, such as the entry, kitchen bench, junk drawer, or that cupboard you’re slightly afraid to open. For the entry, a simple shoe rack or storage box can make a surprising difference. If you’ve got good-quality items you no longer use, give them a second life by donating them to Coastal Treasures, SPCA Op-Shop, or a clothing donation bin.

2. Tackle Those Overdue Maintenance Jobs

Spring is an excellent time to address the jobs you’ve been quietly ignoring all winter. Waterblast the driveway, clean out the gutters, and check your roof for moss and lichen. Jessie and James recommend the crew at No Moss for getting those roof jobs sorted in Maraetai and Beachlands.

3. Get on Top of the Garden

Set aside a weekend to tackle the weeds and prune back the jungle. A bit of garden TLC makes your home look and feel fresher, and if you're selling, it enhances your curb appeal. If gardening is firmly in the “someone else can do that” category, consider calling in the professionals at We Do.

4. Let There Be Light

After a long winter, it’s time to let the sunshine back in. Clean your windows, or if you don’t have the time (or the inclination), hire someone else to do it for you. Jessie and James recommend Brandon from Window Cleaning & Co – 022 098 4167. It’s one of those jobs you don’t necessarily notice needs doing until it’s completed, and suddenly the whole house feels brighter.

5. Give Your Soft Furnishings a Refresh

Wash the cushion covers, give the couch a deep clean (James loves his Bissell for this), and thoroughly vacuum the rugs. Then, pack away those heavy winter throws and bring out lighter layers and textures. You don’t necessarily need to buy anything new; sometimes a good clean and a bit of rearranging is all it takes.

6. Bring a Little Green Indoors

A bunch of fresh flowers or one statement plant can completely change the feel of a room and give it an instant lift. In fact, research from Harvard Medical School found that fresh flowers in the home significantly decrease anxiety, worries, and cortisol, so consider this your permission to buy yourself flowers for no particular reason.

7. Give Your Bedroom a Reset

Spring is a great time to give your bedroom a proper refresh. Change the sheets, wash the duvet, rotate the mattress, and clear the bedside tables. If you’ve been cocooning under heavy winter bedding, switch to lighter layers that make the room feel fresh and airy.

8. Tackle the One Job You’ve Been Putting Off

Pick one job you’ve been putting off, whether it’s cleaning the oven, sorting the linen cupboard, cleaning out the fridge, or washing the outdoor furniture.

Lastly, don’t try to do everything at once. Tackle one job at a time, tick it off your list, and enjoy that little dopamine hit. If selling is on your mind, don’t start spending money on big changes just yet. Talk to us first; we can help you determine which jobs are worth doing before putting your Beachlands or Maraetai home on the market.
